Anna Braun, Head Volleyball Coach



Braun comes to the Stormy Petrels with a wealth of experience in Atlanta-area collegiate and club volleyball. She served as the head volleyball coach at Agnes Scott College in nearby Decatur for the last two years, guiding the Scotties to their first two trips to the USA South conference tournament in program history. She also served as the assistant coach for the Scotties during the 2016 season.

The Tallahassee, Florida, native served as a coach for A5 Volleyball Club in the Atlanta area for seven years. She garnered numerous top 10 finishes in the regional tournament as a head coach, including a third-place finish in 2014. That team qualified for the junior national tournament.

An Oglethorpe alumna, Braun was a stalwart outside hitter and setter for the Petrels from 2011-14. She garnered all-conference accolades three times, earning a spot on the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference third team in her freshman season of 2011 and winning All-SAA honorable mention in 2012 and 2013.

Braun earned her bachelor's degree in communication and rhetoric studies from Oglethorpe in 2014. She went on to attain a master's degree in sport administration from Georgia State University in 2018.

Danielle Sweet Shearer, Assistant Volleyball Coach



Danielle Sweet Shearer returns to assist the Oglethorpe volleyball team this season with a solid background of coaching and playing experience. She started her coaching career head-coaching youth club teams at NAVC for five seasons. She also served as a head coach for numerous middle and high school programs such as Peachtree Charter Middle School A team, Creekview Middle School A team and Harrison High School’s JV team. Danielle recently joined A5 Volleyball club in 2018, serving as the assistant coach for 16-Liang where the team earned first place finish at SRVA, ranking fifth at the USAV National Championship in the Power Division, and ranking overall third in the Southern Region SRVA. She became head coach of 17-Danielle at A5 for the 2019 season. Although the season was cut short, she led her team to a successful season with a .702 winning percentage, finishing third in 17-American at the Sunshine qualifier, and finishing third in 17-Open at K2 Elite.

Danielle committed to playing collegiate volleyball at Emmanuel College as a right side/middle hitter while the institution was in the process of transferring from NAIA to NCAA Division II, where they were to play in Conference Carolinas. Her junior year, she secured second-team All-Region and All-Conference Carolinas team, and placed fourth in the conference for total blocks, third in blocks per set and second in solo blocks. Danielle received the Champions of Character award, made the All-Southern States Athletic Conference Team (when Emmanuel still competed in NAIA) and first-team all-area her sophomore year; and her freshman year, she made the SSAC All-Freshman team. Before college, she played at A5 her 17’s and 18’s year, and placed ninth in open play at the Chicago qualifier and went to nationals.

Shearer received an associate degree her junior year at Emmanuel College before transferring to Kennesaw State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science. She is currently living in the Smyrna area with her new husband, Reinhardt volleyball coach Charles Shearer, and enrolled in the Master of Sports Administration program at Georgia State University for Fall 2020.

Past and Present Petrels

Our past and present Oglethorpe University volleyball players assist in the orchestrating and technical training at camp. They do a phenomenal job of connecting with the campers while teaching the Oglethorpe volleyball core values of character, discipline and effort.
